Your logo is important to you and if it isn’t -  it should be. Lebron James once explained that there are certain logos that anywhere you are in the world you know exactly what that logo means. If you think about it he’s absolutely right. The New York Yankees, McDonald's, Hewlett-Packard, Facebook, Real Madrid, Apple and Nike all have one thing in common. You can easily read the last sentence and picture most, if not all, their logos.

This isn’t to say that your brand will suddenly achieve all-time status from getting a good logo. It all starts at the production and management levels but once you’re there you need a logo that does you justice.

Therefore I’ve comprised a list of logo creation tools and tried to find the best ones I could. What I can already tell you is that there are few truly free logo design websites and ever fewer quality websites that are totally free. This shouldn’t damper your plans to get a proper logo for your business. Most download costs are fairly reasonable considering it gives your enterprise an anchor for branding.

Canva

If you need a unique logo that will help you build the identity of your brand, but cannot yet afford to splurge, then Canva is the way to go. Create it yourself with the user-friendly interface and drag-and-drop features. It comes complete with a library which includes some free elements and many templates. Save your creation as either a high-res PNG file or a print-ready PDF - and rest assured it will look great in either format.

Logomakr

One of the few truly free websites Logomakr does not burden the user with a wealth of options. The interface is simple and fairly easy to understand. They also provide a short tutorial clip along with advice on how to build a winning logo. I would recommend it for any new business looking to get a feel for making their winning logo.

Designimo

A very well crafted website with very easily understandable flow. It did not take long before I had a logo that I would have happily printed on a business card. Designimo will let you save and download your creations for free, but any high resolution download will cost you $29.95. Definitely worth a look.

99 Designs

A very cool design agency that sources the work of designers from all over the world to compete. The starting package is $299 for 30 designs from different designers and you choose which you, if you like none you get a refund. 99 Designs is a good avenue for small businesses that feel they’ve grown to the point where they need a truly 100% unique design to set themselves apart.

YouiDraw

YouiDraw is focused more on the technical aspects of quality logo design. They provide the necessary tools for vector graphics. Vector graphics compared to the typical graphic you see made up of pixels, is that vector graphics can be magnified and stretched without becoming pixelated. The typical use is for billboards or promotional banners. Certainly worth a look ahead of any major trade shows with pricing at $9.99 per month or $99.99 for the year.

Withoomph

Let’s start with the name. Withoomph is a brilliant name, it steps away from the stream of tools with the words free, tool, logo and creator in the name. The site itself is well maintained, the tools are incredibly simple to use and they have packages starting from $20 to $70. The range goes from a simple logo creation to a streamlined source for branded pieces that you can put on your website, business cards, social media etc.

I would say the real winner for me from these six would be Withoomph. I liked the way it felt all the way through the creation experience, they give you an idea of how the logo would look on different devices and mediums, it's a clean very simple interface and I had a lot of fun using it. However, there were some limitations with regards to icons and options.

Personally, though, I can say I am a huge fan of Canva and use it myself on a regular basis. My favorite part of using it is that it completes the logo creation process and includes all of the other marketing materials you could possibly need all in one place which are all inspiring and intuitive.

If you haven’t already, get cracking on making a logo that I hope to see around for a long time to come! Don't know where to start?
