TutorialHow do I create a Social Advertising campaign?

There are four short steps to create a campaign: 1) select a goal and networks for your campaign, 2) prepare and select creatives for your ads, 3) select your target audience, and 4) define the budget you wish to invest.

How do I choose a goal for my campaign?
It is important to choose the right goal for your campaign. There are four different campaign goals, each of which is listed on the left-hand side: 1) promote website, 2) promote page, 3) increase sales, and 4) promote post.

Website promotion campaigns are set to show ads that, when clicked, redirect the viewer to your website. You can promote your website on both Facebook and Instagram.

If your goal is to promote a page (a Facebook page), you can only promote that page on Facebook. Increase sale campaigns are set to show ads that, when clicked, redirect the viewer to your online store add the item to a cart, wishlist, make a purchase, or more. You can increase sales on both Facebook and Instagram.

If your goal is to promote a post, you will advertise a post of your own to potential customers in hopes of visiting your site. You can promote a post on both Facebook and Instagram.
Why Instagram advertising is not available if I choose the goal “Promote Page”?
Instagram does not yet support Page Promotion campaigns, therefore any campaign built on Instagram will redirect to a website.
Why Instagram advertising is not available if I don’t connect my Facebook account and attach a page?
Instagram ads are launched on behalf of a Facebook page. In order for Solomoto to be able to launch Instagram campaigns on your behalf - i.e. on behalf of your business Facebook Page - connect your Facebook account and page to your Solomoto account.
What are Advertising Formats?
There is a number of available ad formats when advertising on Facebook and Instagram.

Each ad format is designed to show your images and texts in a different layout, and in a different placement on Facebook or Instagram.

When creating your campaign you can manage the ad formats you wish to use. You can choose between:
  • Facebook Right Column Ads
  • Facebook Desktop Newsfeed Ads
  • Facebook Carousel Ads
  • Instagram Image Ads
  • Instagram Carousel Ads
How can I change my Advertising Format?
Under the “Prepare Creatives” section, on the right hand sign click the orange “Manage Formats” button to change or add multiple advertising formats. Once in the manager formats widget, check off each type of advertisement you want to pay for each social media site.
Can I use multiple advertising formats for an advertisement?
Yes, of course! You can advertise using every format for one advertisement. It is up to you how many formats you want to use.
Why some formats are not available to me if I don’t connect my Facebook Account and attach a page?
Some formats are defined to be published on behalf of a Facebook Page. In order to be able to enable these formats, please connect your Facebook Page to your Solomoto account.
What is a creative?
The combination of texts, images and call to action button used in one ad, is called a creative. You can create up to 4 unique creatives in your campaign for all regular ad formats, and up to one unique creative for your carousel format. Additionally you can select and test all possible combinations of text and images to generate more creatives for all regular formats.
How do I choose text for my creatives?
Creatives for ad formats are composed of a headline, body of text, and an image. Normally the campaign wizard will suggest some text ads that we think will fit your business. If you wish to change them, you can either choose a pre-made text ad from the Text Library, or write your own text ad.

To choose a text ad from the library, just click on the link inside the text box, and look through the Solomoto Collection tab to select a pre-made text ad that fits your business category.

Text ads you have already used in the past, are stored in the “My Collection” tab of the text library.
How do I choose images for my creatives?
Normally the campaign wizard will suggest images that we think will fit your business. If you wish to change them, you can either choose a ready-made image from the image library, or upload your own images from your computer or from the internet.

To choose an image ad from the library, just click on the plus button on the image placeholder, and look into the tab Solomoto Collection to select a readymade image ad that fits your business category.

Image ads you have already used in the past, are stored in the “My Collection” tab of the image library.
How do I set up an Instagram or Facebook Carousel Creative?
In order to launch a Carousel Ad, click on the manage formats button on the creative step, and activate the carousel format.

A new section will then appear in the step, with the set up field for the carousel ad.

Select between three and five image, and add their related texts and destination links to create your unique carousel ad. Remember that each image can redirect to a specific different url - this means that for instance you can publish 5 different products from your store, and redirect each product image to the product page in your e-commerce site.
How can I preview my Ads?
Under each of the creatives you are preparing you will find an Ad Preview icon. Click on it to see the preview of your ads. Use the arrows, and the tabs to scroll between all previews available.
How do I choose the right targeting for my campaign?
Select the right demographics and location for your campaign based on the likeliness of users with these profiles to become your customers.

Then choose the right interests audience for your campaign:

  • Basic targeting options: in order to save you time, Solomoto built Audiences. Audiences are clusters of users ready to be targeted. Each audience represents a group of users that is defined in Facebook by their interests and demographics. Audiences are simple to target and quick to select.
  • Advanced targeting options: If you wish to define your own audience to pinpoint the users that are more likely to buy your products, switch on the advanced targeting options to define interests, behaviors and more.
What is the Audience Size Definition?
Once you have defined your targeting audience, you are taken to the last step of your campaign set up. In this step a graph will show you the audience size definition of your campaign, which is the expected volume of users that your campaign will target.

It is appropriate not to launch campaigns with too narrow audience, or with too broad audience.
What does it mean that my audience is too narrow?
If your campaign is too narrow, the potential user base that will see your ads is very small. Try to change the targeting settings in your campaign.
What does it mean that my audience is too broad?
If your campaign is too broad, the potential user base that will see your ads is very large. This possibly means that it will be harder to pinpoint your campaign to user that are really interested or likely to purchase your product or service. Try to adjust your targeting settings to find the best fit for your campaign.
Why should I set up the Start and End date of my campaign?
You can use the start and end date to define the length of your campaign. You can also use the start and end date to plan a campaign during a promo period, or to set up a number of campaigns in advance - launch them, and have them start delivering ads at the right time, while you might be busy with other business tasks.

Remember that once you have created a campaign, you need to click on the play button to launch it, and send it to moderation for approval. Approval and actual start of the campaign might then take up to 24 hours time.
Is there a recommended budget for my campaign?
There is no recommended budget for a campaign, but there is a minimum budget required to launch your campaign. The minimum budget is stated under the budget field and depends on the campaign settings and length of the campaign.
